I saw the words Shrek Rave listed alongside the details of Gamla Bíl here in the city center in Reykjavík.And I was curious, I still am, because I don't know what a Shrek Rave is. I'm guessing it is something to do with the film of that title.My guest today is going to be able to confirm that for me. I'll let her introduce herself.Okay, my name is Marja Guðvardóttir. I'm a project manager here at Gamla Bíl.Okay, now my guess that the Shrek Rave is something to do with the film. I think I'm right because I'm wearing a green jumper today.Exactly.And when I came in, you rather rudely said, you've come dressed for the part.Yes.So it's about the film.Exactly. It is about the film and it's, yeah, the characters become live here and us that grew up with the movie, we're all adults now and we turned Gamla Bíl into the swamp so people can come and have a good time.It's just like a music festival.Right.It's a rave.So, and it's, people come dressed up, but they don't have to dress up, but it's fun to wear something.It's fun to wear something green and just, yeah, take part of the show. And the audience become part of the show.Sure.So it's a bit like Rocky Horror in a way then.Yeah, I would think, but it's like more of like a dance party.Yes.You're not sitting down and watching a show.Throwing toast at the screen.Exactly. And you have all the characters here and it's a lot of fun. We have like an onion eating competition and yeah, it's going to be.It must look a bit scary though with all the Shreks running around.No, Shrek is a kind person.He looks a bit scary if you don't know, doesn't he?He looks a bit scary, but when you get to know him, he's a kind person.He's kind of cuddly, okay.Not the first time it's happened to you, the Shrek rave?No, it's the second time we have it here at Gamla Bíl and first time was a huge success, so we're bringing it back.Bringing it back.Yeah.And it's part of a European tour, I think, isn't it?It is. It's going around Europe, so we are part of that, yeah.Do you like the film?I love the film.Who doesn't?I have not seen it for a very long time. I think I saw it when it came out, but it's not a film that I've re-watched.Is it worth watching again before you come along to this, do you think?It is. It is. I watched it, you know, when I was young and then I watched it with my kids and it's like, yeah.What's the most impressive outfit you've seen?Someone that sort of sticks in your mind as having really made a really impressive effort.They were very impressive costumes.They were very impressive costumes last time and people don't dress like, some people go all the way, but some people just come with a little bit of green or, you know, something.And then we'll also be selling merchandise, so people will be able to buy something.So does it happen here in the main hall, which is just to our left?Yes, in the main hall and on the second floor.On the balcony.Yeah, we will have a full house, so it's almost sold out, so it's going to be a full house.I can't imagine it.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.Yeah.It's so classy.We're on these lovely velvet seats in the reception.It's a beautiful building, of course, Cam Labille in the center of the city.I can't imagine it full of ravers and people dressed as Shrek and Donkey.Yeah, but it's going to be interesting.And for that one night, we will turn Cam Labille into the swamp.Into the swamp.Yeah.Yeah.But a swamp that's a nice place to be.Exactly.Yeah.Will you be dressing up?Most definitely.As?Ah, I haven't decided.I'm working, so I need to.Yeah.I need to impress.What would your preference be, then?Fiona.Fiona?Yes.It says Fiona.Yeah.That seems like the best idea.So, this will be the second one.It sounds like it won't be the last time that Cam Labille becomes a swamp.Yeah.Hopefully not.Would you be interested in doing any other sort of film-related nights like this?Yes.I think it's always fun to do something like that.And hopefully, someone will have the idea and come here.Because we mainly rent out the venue, but if people have good ideas, we are always open for it.Sure.Yeah.Just a word, then, on Cam Labille, because it's been here for a long time, of course.It is now a venue that can be used for all kinds of things, isn't it?Yes.We are like a multi-functional venue, and we host everything from concerts to banquetsand weddings and, yeah, just whatever.School dances.Really?Yeah.Yeah.And we have screenings, and there's, yeah, we're rehearsing a play now, and, yeah, it'sa lot of things going on here at Cam Labille.Do you still have above us the rooftop bar?Yes.Peterson.Yeah.Yes.We have that still, and it's a very popular place.We, yeah.Because you might be thinking, if you're listening to this outside of Iceland as we head intowinter, it's very autumnal today, it's very windy and very wet, that you might not wantto spend a lot of time on the rooftop or, indeed, outside.Yeah.Yeah.But there's something very special about this place when it is snowing, I think, andeven if you don't go out onto the rooftop, just looking at the view, because you geta great view of downtown here, don't you?Exactly, and you can go all the way up to the top, and there you have like a 360 viewof the city.Even though it's windy, we have, you know, you can sit outside, because we have likeheated areas, and the bar area is beautiful, so it's, I would recommend for people to comehere.The atmosphere is wonderful.We have like a winter opening now, so we're open like Wednesdays to Saturdays, but I encouragepeople to come and visit us.Good.Well, I'm glad we've had this conversation, because if someone does turn up on Fridayand they don't know what's going on, and they go up to the rooftop bar, and they see lotsof Shreks and donkeys and fjölnir, they might be quite confused.Well, then they know that their Shrek is going on downstairs, so I would recommend.What time does this all start on Friday?Okay.It starts at 8 o'clock, and it runs til 1 o'clock in the evening.Fantastic.Yes.Okay.And we'll put a link up to where you can buy tickets for this.There'll be a link to that on the page accompanying the show.Maria, thanks very much indeed.You're welcome.Nice to meet you.I look forward to seeing which costume you decide.I think it's going to be fjölnir, though, isn't it?Yes, I think so.I think so.Princess Maria, we shall call you that.This is RUV English Radio.My name is Darren Adam, and you can get in touch with us any time.We are English at RUV.is.There is more from RUV English with all the news from Iceland in English at RUV.is slashEnglish.RUV English Radio is a daily English language radio from Iceland's national broadcaster,RUV.RUV English Radio.
